Home Remedies for Migraines

When you’re living with Migraine Disease it’s important to your piece of mind to create a collection of home remedies for Migraines that give you relief. The better you become in getting relief from Migraine headaches the more time and energy you can spend working towards Migraine prevention. It’s hard to focus on prevention when we are in the middle of a Migraine attack desperate for relief.

There are a number of home remedies for Migraines that I have found to be highly effective. Ultimately you will need to trust your intuition, do some research, and test drive some of these natural remedies for migraines to see which ones give you the best relief and support.

Don’t be surprised if some of these remedies seem far fetched or even ridiculous. In my own experienced, some of the oddest home remedies for Migraines have actually yielded me the best relief. In a way, it can work to your advantage to feel desperate for Migraine pain relief because with that desperation you can find yourself experimenting with remedies for Migraines that you wouldn’t likely give a chance otherwise.

I’m a firm believer that Migraine prevention and relief is best achieved with a little creativity and the willingness to let your intuition guide you. When looking for natural remedies for Migraines you will want to consider the specific symptoms you are trying to relieve.

If you are at all like me, than your Migraines may come with an aura, nausea, throbbing head pain, neck, shoulder, and back tension and pain, and cold hands and feet. Because there so many symptoms I experience I like to try to soothe each discomfort as best as I can. Collectively, this makes a big difference in my experience with Migraines.

Some home remedies for Migraines that I use for my upset tummy include sucking and gently chewing on a chunk of raw ginger that has been skinned and cut up into a cough drop sized cube. Believe it or not, this really does ease my nausea and the added bonus is that the ginger opens my airwaves and sinuses, encouraging me to breathe deeply. Breathing more deeply helps to calm my nervous system and assist me in relaxing my body.

Peppermint tea is also one of those remedies for Migraines that you might want to have in stock at home. Peppermint tea helps to open your airways, calm your stomach, and encourages you to breathe more fully and relaxed.

My favorite home remedies for Migraines that can help ease the discomfort of your cold hands and feet include taking hot foot baths with Epsom salts or any of your favorite calming essential oils mixed in. The hot foot baths are good for relaxing all the reflexology points in your feet which can help to release muscle tension throughout your body and make you feel more grounded and relaxed.

We spend so much time in our head (so to speak) when we are managing a Migraine attack that this remedy is great for making us more conscious of our whole body. The footbath can help in shifting your attention away from the pain a little and into the soothing feeling of the bath.

Natural remedies for Migraines that you can use for the neck, shoulder and back tension and pain include guided deep relaxation CD’s that can walk you through your different body parts and help you relax your muscle groups one by one.

Another remedy for post migraine symptoms such as back, neck and shoulder tension involves applying hot face cloths to your neck and shoulders, or putting a moist heating pad underneath your neck and shoulders while you lie down, close your eyes and try to relax. The moist heat is wonderful for relieving muscle tension and pain but I recommend that you do not use this strategy during a migraine.  Many people find that the heat can exacerbate a migraine.  So, during a migraine Applying ice to the neck, face, and upper shoulders will help dull the pain and will also redirect the blood flow away from your head.

Applying a moist heating pad on sore and tight muscles after a migraine has passed is one of my favorite home remedies because you can literally just plug it in, turn out the lights, lay down on it, and relax. There are also moist heating pads that you can simply heat up in your microwave that offer you a good 20 minutes worth of heat before they cool down.

The most effective home remedies for Migraines and recovery from a migraine hangover will always be the ones that stimulate muscle relaxation. Physical tension can hold your pain in place, so think of tension relief as a means for achieving Migraine pain relief. And try some of these home remedies for Migraines today to see which ones give you the relief and support you’ve been seeking.

Now that you’ve got some ideas of home remedies for migraines you can experiment with let me help you create your natural migraine relief sanctuary for healing.  I will walk you through the process of creating your sanctuary and tell you how each individual element you bring into your sanctuary can empower you during a migraine attack.
